However, there are a few critical things you MUST be cautious about before signing:
1. Do NOT sign without an exit clause!
Always ensure you have the ability to terminate the agreement if needed. Without an exit clause, you could be stuck in a contract with an agent who isn’t meeting your needs.
2. Avoid long-term commitments without flexibility.
A short-term agreement (maximum of three months) is ideal. Never sign a year-long contract—it’s unnecessary. If you’re satisfied with the agent, you can always extend it later.
3. Limit the geographical area.
Do NOT sign a contract that covers all of New Jersey or multiple counties. Make sure the agreement is specific to the areas where the agent has expertise.
Trust, but Verify
While trusting your agent is important, signing an agreement blindly is a big mistake. Protect yourself from being locked into an arrangement that may not serve your best interests.
